Descriptive Writing

Good writers can create a picture in their readers’ minds.

They can do this by:

  • using interesting vocabulary.
  • elaborating on details.
  • showing, rather than telling, some of the details.
  • describing all five senses (what can be seen, heard, tasted, felt and smelt).
  • using lots of adjectives (describing words).
  • using metaphors or similies to compare two things.
  • using synonyms (words with similar meanings) to make interesting word choices.

Lets start by first talking about who you think is a good writer!

Leave a comment to tell us about your favorite writer.

Why do you like this writer?

Now provide examples of how they achieve the characteristics of good writers by sharing quotes from their stories.

Our World – Our Environment

We have been learning about different cultures and places in our Geography class.

Now it’s time to do some research on your own!

Watch this amazing Time is Nothing // Around the World Time Lapse from 17  Countries.

After you’ve watched the video you need to leave a comment to tell us about as much as you can about one location shown in the video.

Time is Nothing // Around The World Time Lapse from Kien Lam on Vimeo.

Now leave a comment to tell us more:

Where is the location?

What is happening at that location?

What is important about the location?

Why did this location interest  you?

What other interesting facts can you tell us?
